DOVE Chocolate Indulgence Giveaway

Even though we’re dietitians, when it comes to indulgences like dark chocolate, we find it impossible to resist. Last month at the Manic Mommies Escape in Napa, CA, we had the pleasure of sampling a variety of premium chocolates, compliments of DOVE CHOCOLATE DISCOVERIES (they sell decadent chocolates in people’s homes much like Pampered Chef sells fun kitchen tools).

Admittedly, we ate a few more chocolates than we should have. The scene reminded us of the hilarious I Love Lucy episode where Lucy and Ethel work in a chocolate factory and can only keep up with the speedy conveyor belt by eating most of the chocolates!  Okay, so maybe we’re exaggerating just a bit.

For this month’s giveaway, one lucky blog reader will receive a fabulous Delicious Indulgence Bundle from our new friends at DOVE. The giveaway, valued at $50.00, includes 24 sea-salted caramels and an assortment of dark chocolate-covered fruit.

My favorite holiday sweet is a bit non traditional but it’s somewhat cultural. My mother has always made, what’s translates to “soaked fruits” around the holidays. The traditional recipe uses a combination of mixed nuts and various dry fruits, such as apricots and dates. These are all soaked in a very light simple syrup and some spices if desired. These soak for anywhere between 24-72 hours. The flavor and texture in unbeatable!

The cheap chocolate from chocolate Advent Calendars. But I’m sure I would prefer these Dove chocolates!

  11. Paula on November 30th, 2009

My favorite holiday indulgence is the liqueur truffles I make with my sisters each year. Rolling the truffles by hand is messy work, but it is fun to eat the ones that don’t come out quite good enough.

  12. MaryP on November 30th, 2009

My daughters and I love making homemade chocolate caramels! We wrap them indiviually and give them to friends! Can’t wait to make them in a couple of weeks! Yum!!

My favorite indulgences during the holidays are two fold. I LOVE Dove chocolate. I can’t stop eating during the holiday season! I also LOVE making all sorts of cookies with my girls. It is a tradition that my mom started, and I keep it alive every year. The house smells AMAZING all month long.

My favorite indulgence is my mom’s Heath Bar Dessert that she makes for me every year around my birthday time. My birthday falls around Thanksgiving each year and this year I got the Heath Bar Dessert as my birthday cake! Thanks mom!!!!

  17. Julie Sebell on November 30th, 2009

One of my favorite indulgences is a simple, but decadent appetizer: fresh dates filled a small amount of pate ( preferably a mousse pate laced with truffles) then sprinkled with course salt & chopped parsley! Yum!

  18. Jinny Davies on November 30th, 2009

I have a couple favorite indulgences. One is something my mom makes. She is the most incredible pie maker and makes a truly scrumptuous eggnog pie. I like to make baskets of baked goodies at Christmas as gifts. Another of my indulgences is a double dipped chocolate cherry. It is a marachino cherry wrapped in chocolate fondant, and then dipped in white chocolate…so decadent and delicious…definitely a once a year treat!

  19. Jamie on November 30th, 2009

One of the things I make every year that is an indulgence is chocolate covered pretzels. Milk chocolate ones and white chocolate. I would love to win the Dove chocolates so I can indulge just a little bit more.

By the way, I received my Cabot cheese I won a few months ago and, boy, was that delicious. My whole family loved all the cheeses and we just used the last of it last week. It lasted a LONG time. Very good. Thank you so much. I hope I can win something else real soon. Thanks again, Cathy

I cannot resist baking–and EATING large amounts of–those peanut butter cookies with a Hershey Kiss on top! It’s a joyous challenge to form the “perfect bite,” with just the right amount of chocolate and cookie, each time. Hey, with the peanut butter, it includes a good amount of protein mixed with the sugar! And if I use dark chocolate kisses, there’s some antioxidants too . . . what nutrition! A-hem . . .

I have been doing a new nutrition plan and have lost 33 pounds. I ate on Thanksgiving and I plan on eating at Christmas. Would be neat to have and share.
    Blessings to all!

My grandmother makes nut horns but only for Christmas. I wait all year just to have them and you’ll find me by the tray stuffing a storage container full of them to take home and snack on later. I think I gain 5lbs each Christmas due to nut horn indulgence.

  52. Carissa on December 1st, 2009

  57. Samantha Jackson on December 1st, 2009

It’s a holiday tradition in our household to make sugar cookies with powdered sugar glaze frosting. We always make at least three batches, and often give plates of them away to friends and other family members. Nothing says holidays to me more than those cookies. They are so good, I sneak them for breakfast. Yikes! How bad is that?

My very favorite chocolate covered cherries are the homemade ones that Mom used to make. She would make them and then store them so that the inside would get good and juicy. Delicious! My favorite holiday indulgence(s) is/are most definitely the Christmas cookies my family makes. It’s been a family tradition for many years, but this year, since I’m in Virginia Beach, and my grandmother and aunts are in Pennsylvania, I’ll be making any of the cookies that I want to indulge in myself. :-)

  73. Carolyn on December 1st, 2009

My favorite holiday indulgence is taking time off from work to just hang out with my girls….and eat lots of chocolate :-)

  74. Mary T on December 1st, 2009

I can’t resist cookies, all kinds of cookies! Each one we make has a family tradition behind it and carries memories of past family gatherings and loved ones. A classic that even you Makeover Mom’s wouldn’t be able to alter is Mrs. Bearhope’s Scots’ Shortbread. It’s just butter, superfine sugar, and flour and needs to be made a few weeks in advance (oops that’s now!). Mrs. B. was very specific about her ‘breads. No decorations except fork pricks, and only simple geometric shapes. Incredible!

  75. Mary T on December 1st, 2009

PS. I’d love the Dove chocolate give-away. The Dove dark chocs of any type are silky and satisfying. Plus, I’m choosing to believe in the health benefits of chocolate–just in moderation!

My favorite holiday indulgence is the nutbread I make from a recipe my great-grandmother brought with her when she came to the US from Italy. It’s a sweet yeast roll filled with a walnut filling. It takes all day to bake the 12 – 14 rolls, but it wouldn’t be Christmas for my family without it.

My favorite holiday indulgence is hot chocolate. I buy premium hot chocolate mix and made as directed. I then add 1-2 T. of half and half and stir with a Bob’s Peppermint Stick. Top with real whipped cream. To die for! :-)

  117. Susan M. Mattson on December 2nd, 2009

Here is my recipe for CARAMELS that someone requested yesterday:
NOTE: NOT healthy, but come on, it’s Christmas;-)
Two & 1/2 cups white sugar
    3/4 cup white corn syrup
    1/8 tsp. cream of tartar
Two & 1/2 cups whipping cream (1 pint whipping cream & 1/2 cup milk)
    1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup butter (can use margarine, but I wouldn’t recommend it)
Combine all but vanilla & butter in heavy kettle on SLOW heat, stirring constantly; boil until hard-ball stage. Remove from heat & add vanilla & butter & mix well. Pour into buttered cookie sheet & cool. Cut into long strips & then cut in pieces & wrap in wax paper.
NOTE: It’s slow-going to get it to the hard-ball stage, & it’s also time-consuming cutting all those pieces of wax paper & twisting each end afterwards, but it is WELL worth the effort! This candy would also make excellent stocking stuffers!

One of my favorite holiday treats is the Baked Pineapple dish my mother always makes for Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners. I think it has a LOT of sugar and butter in it. Maybe it needs a makeover by Liz and Janice, but it really is delicious and only eaten one or two times each year.

Of course my next favorite indulgence is chocolate so of course I would like to be in the running for the Dove Chocolate treats. Thanks for the great podcast!

I’d like to win for the simple fact that I love chocolate. I no longer celebrate this holiday, but my favorite treat only available around this time of year is chocolate dipped candy canes!!!

THanks for the opportunity to try new products! Love the podcast!!

Hmmmmm….favorite holiday indulgences….my husband and I go out to lunch on Christmas Eve while the rest of the world is shopping mania. We go into the restaurant where no one else is! We have a nice quiet lunch preparing for the True Meaning of the Christmas holiday, the birth of Christ. We also enjoy other goodies too, like homemade Christollen bread (cinnamon raisen or cranberry orange), and my husband likes mincemeat pie. Homemade date pinwheel cookies and shortbread are other favorites. The chocolate caramel salted candies sounds so yum yum…can’t beat salty sweet!

I just became an e-newsletter subscriber…so I’ll share another favorite holiday indulgence…my husband and I get up on Christmas morning and go for a run with friends and then come home and eat the Christollen I talked about and have that with fresh cranberry bread and read the Christmas story from Luke chapter 2…

My favorite holiday treat is probably pumpkin bars with cream cheese icing. We LOVE Dove chocolates at our house, and winning this would be an awesome surprise for my husband (as well as me and the kids!).

I’m a devoted podcast listener! I love cooking healthy for my family, and they usually love to eat it. I eat dark chocolate regularly to boost my health with antioxidants. And chocolate and fruit are a fabulous combo.

For the holidays, I LOVE white chocolate peppermint bark!

    Subscribed.

Chocolate is not an indulgence, it is a daily requirement! Deep dark chocolate, that is.

Walnut bars are our Holiday tradition. Baked in a tart pan, cut into thin wedges, each one decorated with chocolate and a whole nut. The whole round is wrapped in cellophane and tied with a bow. I make 30-40 per year.

New FB fan. I love to make gingerbread people with the kids at Christmas. When nobody is looking, the gingerbread people “run away” and the kids love to look for them :)
