Turkey ‘n Cheese Pretzel Sticks
by The Meal Makeover Moms on April 27th, 2009
If you’ve ever walked into an elementary school classroom during morning snack time, you probably saw a lot of sugary, starchy things like cookies, chips, pretzels, sport’s drinks, and even candy! Snack time provides an excellent opportunity for adding good nutrition to a child’s diet, but in reality, nutritionally lackluster nibbles are often packed along instead. This morning, as we plotted out our to-do list for the week, the topic of snacking came up. The fact that we were sampling some very yummy Honey Whole Wheat Pretzel Sticks Liz had just picked up at Trader Joe’s was probably the reason why. As we snacked, we came up with a fun idea for turning those little sticks into a more substantial, protein-rich mini meal. We predict this will be a huge hit with our kids … and hopefully with yours.
Turkey ‘n Cheese Pretzel Sticks
Makes 1 Serving- 2 slices low-sodium deli turkey (1 ounce per slice)
- 1 slice American cheese, cut into four strips
- 4 whole wheat pretzel sticks
1. Cut each slice of turkey in half. Lay the four slices on a cutting board. Place one cheese strip and one pretzel stick at the bottom edge of each turkey slice. Roll up around the pretzel.
2. Place in a re-usable container in your child’s lunchbox.

Looks delicious. I am going to try this one.
AWESOME! That is a GREAT idea. I don’t have kids, but I love this idea because I don’t like to eat fast food, so I can pack this for me! I am going to share it with my mom friends.
Sounds good! Still need to work on getting a Trader Joe’s in TX!
Had the carrot top tuna today for the first time. Was wonderful!
This is a really cute idea, I’m going to try it out with my kids!
Eat these soon after preparing though. I made them for my sons class the night before and the pretzel got soggy from the meat by snack time.
Fantastic Idea!
